Health Information
Nurse:
What if my child needs medications in school?
If a doctor orders medication to be given to your child during school hours, ask the doctor to send a written statement, countersigned by you, including the following information:
- Child's name
- Name of medication
- Dosage Times to be dispensed
- How long to dispense medication
- Symptoms to be observed
Parents must deliver medications to school along with written statement to the nurse who will dispense it. Under no circumstances should your child be given medication to be taken on his or her own. The nurse cannot give your child Tylenol without a written statement from the doctor and countersigned by you.
